Homes for sale in U Thant, Kuala Lumpur
U Thant is the rare Kuala Lumpur address where internationals and locals both feel at home — KL's diplomatic enclave, half a square mile between 20+ embassies, the Royal Selangor Golf Club, KLCC and the international schools at its doorstep (ISKL, The Children's House, Sayfol, The Surin, Beaconhouse Newlands). MM2H-eligible. Strict low-density zoning — capped at 10 storeys — protects the neighbourhood from over-development.
Detached freehold bungalows trade between RM 10M and RM 85M+; luxury low-rise condominiums — Sastra U Thant, 9 Madge, Rimbun, Katana II, DeDaun — between RM 3.5M and RM 10M+. Foreign buyers can own freehold in this segment. We list every U Thant home publicly available, plus off-market opportunities we hold privately. Below: every home for sale, plus 4 new developments upcoming.

The buildings of U Thant
U Thant — known officially as Taman U Thant in the city plan — is named for Maha Thray Sithu U Thant, the Burmese diplomat who served as the third Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1961 to 1971. Tunku Abdul Rahman extended the honour in the 1960s by giving the road, and then the neighbourhood, his name. The embassies arrived in the same decade and never left.
Four things define the neighbourhood's premium.
First: Freehold land. Almost every property in U Thant sits on individual freehold title — the rarest tenure in the city, and foreign buyers can own it.
Second: Walkable proximity to KLCC, the Royal Selangor Golf Club, the embassy quarter and the school cluster at its doorstep — ISKL (American + IB) in adjacent Ampang Hilir, The Children's House (Montessori early years), Sayfol (Edexcel + International A-Levels) on Jalan Ampang, The Surin (British curriculum) on Jalan Langgak Golf and Beaconhouse Newlands Early Years on Jalan Taman U Thant. Garden International and Mont Kiara International sit a 10–15 minute drive away in Mont Kiara.
Third: Structural supply constraint. Strict low-density zoning — capped at 10 storeys — protects the neighbourhood from over-development. Detached freehold bungalows trade between RM 10M and RM 85M+. Luxury low-rise condominiums trade from RM 3.5M to RM 10M+.
Fourth: Cycle resilience. Since the late 1980s U Thant has weathered every Malaysian property cycle — 1997 Asian financial crisis, 2008 GFC, 2015 oil-price collapse, 2020 pandemic shock — by holding its price floor first and recovering first. Across the 500+ in-district transactions we have closed, the enclave has not seen a sustained down-axis exceeding two years since 1995.

How U Thant compares
U Thant frequently asked questions
What is the typical price range in U Thant?
Detached freehold bungalows trade between RM 10M and RM 85M+. Luxury low-rise condominiums trade from RM 3.5M to RM 10M+.
Can foreigners buy in U Thant?
Yes. Foreign nationals may purchase freehold residential property in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, subject to a RM 1 million minimum. Every U Thant property clears this many times over.
Is U Thant freehold?
Overwhelmingly yes. U Thant land is individual freehold title and has not been subdivided in this district for several decades.
Is it U Thant, U-Thant, or Uthant?
All three refer to the same place — Kuala Lumpur's diplomatic enclave, officially named Taman U Thant in the city plan, after the third Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Burmese diplomat Maha Thray Sithu U Thant. We standardise on "U Thant" (with a space, no hyphen); "U-Thant" (hyphenated) is also common in the property press and transaction records, and "Uthant" is a no-space shorthand. For the record: 吴丹 is the Chinese rendering of the Secretary-General's name, and there is no single established Chinese name for the enclave — we refer to it as 使馆区 (embassy quarter), its formal name being Taman U Thant.
What schools are near U Thant?
Five international schools sit in or directly bordering U Thant: ISKL (American + IB) in Ampang Hilir, The Children's House (Montessori early years), Sayfol International (London Edexcel + International A-Levels) on Jalan Ampang, The Surin International (British curriculum + vocational) on Jalan Langgak Golf, and Beaconhouse Newlands Early Years (preschool) on Jalan Taman U Thant. Garden International and Mont Kiara International are a 10–15 minute drive away in Mont Kiara.
